Exploration License The Island has numerous hot springs and mud pools indicative of geothermal resources below the Island’s surface. The manifestations can be seen from one end of the Island to the other, making New Britain Island the premier site for geothermal exploration and development. Bismarck Energy Limited has exploration and development rights to geothermal on the Island of New Britain including the Rabaul areas. The license issued by the State, is for a period of six years commencing March, 2008. Geotechnical Surveys BEL is in the process of putting together a closed tender for three international reputable firms to bid for the geotechnical surveys.
